So my weekly posts thing hasn't really been working out, why? One word : Destiny. The game is very good and has had it's claws in me for a couple of months. Luckily I have now blitzed all the content so it doesn't require the relentless grind anymore :)
What am I up to? I'm still jotting down ideas for a game prototype/learning exercise...the objectives are twofold, firstly to implement a fast AI system for fairly complex behaviours on 100+ actors in a single scene, secondly to make them look pretty with some shader programming exercises. I'm currently thinking that a largely input free AI sandbox would be pretty interesting to try out.
One other job....I'm going to install DD-WRT on my router and find a way to purge Taboola links from my internet experience. They are a cancer on the internet and drive me insane, be gone!

I really need to post more, but it's been a hectic summer heading into Autumn due to various professional and personal circumstances! We're in the midst of crunch time at Blue Byte so free time is at a premium, compounded by my hopeless addiction to Destiny since it's release :'(
Anyway, I promise to start writing at least a weekly article, on stuff. I'll sign off with my favourite tweet of the week :

It's been a bit quiet here, although I doubt there are many people waiting with baited breath ;) My move into the games industry has happened a little faster than I had anticipated, and I started work at Ubisoft Blue Byte here in Düsseldorf a couple of weeks ago. I'm now doing frontend development on The Settlers Online, which is an amazing opportunity and I'm really enjoying getting to know a whole new industry It's certainly a refreshing work environment after my previous roles!
So I'm no longer spending my days trying to develop games to make a living, although I am spending some free time sharpening up my skills. I have an Oculus Rift DK2 on order and at the moment I'm working on some little prototypes, and brushing up on C++ in Unreal Engine 4.
I'm still going to maintain this site, but it's going to turn into more of a personal blog, with some tutorials and code samples as and when my Oculus development progresses.

I've been spending a little time running through Adobe's Stage3D and Starling APIs the last couple of days. Obviously fairly primitive compared to UE4 and Unity but it is serving a purpose dredging up the ActionScript from the memory banks! Here's a little (hardware accelerated!) dude you can move around if you have Flash enabled. It has only a VERY crude animation state machine so excuse the glitches. I'll clean it up next week.
Good exercise digging back down in the lower level stuff, took me back to the OpenGL days at uni! Now off for a couple of days so it'll probably be a tad quiet....
